Publicity
The selection process follows the rules contained in the GENERAL POST-GRADUATION NOTICE (available on the PPG website), and also in the Specific Notice of the Selection Process for the Postgraduate Program in Animal Biology.
The specific notice of the selection process will be published on this page and also in the NEWSLETTER on the home page of this site.
Applications for the selection process must be made EXCLUSIVELY via the internet.
Application deadlines
The Postgraduate Program in Animal Biology normally holds two selection processes each year:
- According to the dates in the specific Notice published in the first semester of the year (to start the course in the 2nd semester of the same year);
- According to the dates in the specific Notice published in the second semester of the year (to start the course in the 1st semester of the following year).
Registration Fee
Brazilian and Foreign Candidates………………R$ 116,00
Via bank slip generated after completing the registration form.
Foreign applicants residing abroad must pay the registration fee by international bank transfer (Wire Transfer), in accordance with the credit details contained in the GENERAL POST-GRADUATION NOTICE.

Application fee exemption
In accordance with the documentation required by the Postgraduate General Notice and the deadlines set out in the specific Notice, candidates may apply for exemption from the registration fee if they:
- Belongs to a family registered in the Federal Government’s Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico), whose monthly per capita family income is less than or equal to half a national minimum wage;
- Is a bone marrow donor in entities recognized by the Ministry of Health.
Required documents
All the documents required for registration must be scanned and attached in PDF format to the GPS online registration system.
- Copy of diploma or declaration of completion of undergraduate course;
- Copy of the master’s degree diploma or dissertation defense certificate (for doctorates);
- Copy of the undergraduate transcript explaining the assessment system;
- Copy of the master’s degree transcript explaining the assessment system (for the doctorate);
- Curriculum vitae, in one copy.
- Original proof of payment of the application fee.
- A recent 3×4 photo.
- A copy of your birth or marriage certificate.
- Copy of ID card or, for foreign applicants, passport.
- A copy of the military service document for Brazilian males;
- Copy of the Individual Taxpayer’s Registry (CPF);
- Copy of Voter Registration Card for Brazilians;
- Certificates and proof of curriculum*
With regard to certificates (proof of CV), we ask applicants to avoid sending too many files (e.g. one “pdf” file for each certificate). Send several proofs in one or a few files. Preferably organize the certificates in the file in the same sequential order as the work and activities mentioned in the CV.
Specific Program Documents
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Selection criteria
The processes will be judged on the basis of the data recorded on the application form and the accompanying documentation. The selection process will consist of the following stages:
a) Test of comprehension of scientific work in English
This aims to assess the candidate’s ability to correctly interpret, translate, understand and argue questions relating to a scientific article in English which is provided at the time of the test. The test lasts 4 hours and the use of an English-Portuguese or Portuguese-English dictionary is permitted.
b) Knowledge test
Candidates will be approved if they obtain a minimum score of 60% considering the average of the tests on understanding scientific work in English and knowledge.
c) Analysis of the Curriculum Vitae
When analyzing the Curriculum Vitae, only documents that meet the following standards will be considered:
- According to Law 11.788 of 25/09/2008, chap.3, art. 9, the certificate of completion of internships must be provided by the responsible body (universities or legal entities) with weekly and total hours in the equivalent period.
- Professional experience must be proven with total working hours.
- Technical consultancies must be proven with a total workload.
- Scholarships received must include documentation of completion, indicating the total number of hours worked.
- Previous contracts for any activity will not be accepted. Only documentation proving completion with a full workload.
- Abstracts will only be accepted with a certificate.
- In the case of paid activities, explain the nature of the activity.
- Published articles and journal acceptance letters will be assessed in the same way.
Scholarships and Funding
The program offers students scholarships granted by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and the Minas Gerais State Research Support Foundation (FAPEMIG).

Isolated subjects
Postgraduate students regularly enrolled in Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Programs at other institutions, in the country or abroad, may take Stricto Sensu postgraduate courses at UFV (Academic Mobility).
The Federal University of Viçosa may accept undergraduates to enroll as non-bound students, with an interest in improving their knowledge, without, however, aiming to obtain a postgraduate degree (Non-bound Student).
